Today marks an incredible milestone—NGINX's 20th birthday! Over the past two decades, NGINX has grown from an innovative open source project into a cornerstone of modern web infrastructure, application delivery, and security. This journey has been fueled by a passionate community and relentless focus on performance and innovation.

The Power of Open Source

From its humble beginnings in 2002, NGINX has been deeply rooted in the open source community. Igor Sysoev's vision to solve the C10K problem laid the foundation for a project that would transform the Internet.

On October 4, 2004, after two years of development, NGINX was released to the public. Its unique event-driven architecture and focus on performance quickly attracted early adopters. Sysadmins eagerly shared this powerful new tool, forming the core of an engaged community.

Throughout the 2000s, the project thrived on the contributions and evangelism of its users. The community collaborated on a wiki, discussed NGINX on IRC, and shared their successes far and wide. Adoption soared as NGINX became the go-to solution for cloud-native startups and enterprises alike.
