Software Architect - Development Pipeline

Position Summary

You will work closely with architecture and development teams to ensure the engineering quality and excellence program is in line with the vision and future direction of the product lines and company. You will lead assigned projects and work flow of teams, and serve as mentor to all engineering levels. Partner with management on driving product timelines. Participate in multi-functional design projects, serving as consultant to top management in long-range company planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research/advancement. Generate and promote new theories, concepts, principles and methodologies within software and hardware manufacturing. Constantly learn new technologies. Present in both internal and external settings on development methodology and technical advancements. Project long term technical direction and influence product roadmap. Love to solve hard problems

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serves as primary source of technical expertise to one or more product groups.
  • Helps detail all aspects of pipeline design and ensures that resulting design specification fits into technical architectural framework.
  • Bring industry knowledge and help navigate changing technologies and upcoming trends to build a strategic company pipeline roadmap.
  • Integrates research and emerging business/industry trends into company development pipelines.
  • Recommends and maintains technical design methodologies, processes, technologies and standards
  • Leads, reviews and may direct the architecture of F5's key development tools and systems.
  • Contributes to the design of the product for future scalability
  • Devises and develops new solutions that may involve cross-module dependencies.
  • Lead multi-functional design teams to develop new pipelines as well as address design issues / maintenance of existing ones
  • Regularly informs top management and senior external personnel on company’s technical capabilities and future direction
  • F5 technology spokesperson at internal and external forums
  • Builds formal networks with key decision makers and serves as external spokesperson for the organization.
  • Act as a mentor for other junior members in the team

  • Knowledge of and extensive experience with software manufacturing and process improvement.
  • Experience leading complex product development initiatives from concept through release.
  • Extensive development experience in continuous integration systems.
  • Extraordinary problem solving and project management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to mentor and groom other specialists.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications.
  • Able to collaborate and thrive in a dynamic high-performance environment.
  • Experienced public speaker.
  • Increased interaction with executive level.
  • Able to present product road map and technical differentiators to a wide audience.
  • Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, approximately 25% of the time spent traveling.


  • Requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 12 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 8 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
