F5's newest strategic partner is actually an old friend. F5 and Omnissa, the elegant new name for VMware’s end-user computing (EUC) business, are resuming a successful past relationship to bring customers more scalable and secure virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and digital workspace solutions.

Following Broadcom's acquisition of VMware, investment firm KKR recognized the potential in VMware’s esteemed EUC unit and invested in its bright future, resulting in the creation of Omnissa as a private entity. This move has paved the way for F5 and Omnissa to rekindle their collaboration, leveraging F5’s industry-leading application delivery services to enhance Omnissa’s VDI and digital workspace offerings with superior network traffic optimization and security.

Omnissa name ‘inspired by vision of empowerment’

Omnissa’s ranks are populated with long-time veterans of VMware’s touted EUC business. In introducing the Omnissa name, marketing vice president Renu Upadhyay discussed why it was chosen in an April blog post:

“Omnissa speaks to the central role our platform plays in making digital work better for everyone. We sought a name that aligned to our company purpose, was memorable, and could be easily pronounced. Omnissa (pronounced ahm-NISS-uh) is inspired by a vision of empowerment. It draws from a blend of ideas that suggest the comprehensive nature of our platform’s capabilities and usefulness. It conveys a sense of working calmly, with all the knowledge and insight you need, no matter what you’re doing or where you are.”

Alliance renewed after a 5-year interruption

F5 and VMware have a rich history of collaboration, dating back to their strategic alliance over a decade ago. Now, with Omnissa emerging as an independent entity, leaders from both companies are enthusiastic about reigniting this successful partnership. The renewed alliance, set to take effect in July, promises to bring enhanced value and innovation to customers.

“We've always had a strong working relationship,” says Adam Judd, SVP, APCJ. “Rekindling this connection brings it back into the fold, and it's important to highlight that this isn't a new alliance. Our history of collaboration has consistently delivered value to our mutual customers, and we're excited to transform this relationship into a dynamic partnership once again.”

F5 providing high-performance scalability and more

With the spin-off now complete, Omnissa remains dedicated to creating value for customers through continued innovation of their market-leading Horizon virtual desktop and apps and Workspace ONE unified endpoint management solutions. This renewed focus allows Omnissa to drive forward with agility and a customer-centric approach.

F5 will play a crucial role in supporting Omnissa’s vision across two major product lines, Horizon virtual desktop and apps and Workspace ONE digital workspace, by integrating its advanced application delivery services. F5’s BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager and BIG-IP Access Policy Manager enhance Omnissa’s VDI and digital workspace solutions, ensuring they benefit from high-performance scalability, low latency, and zero trust security.

“We are very excited about our renewed partnership with F5,” says Arindam Nag, VP of Product Management, Omnissa. “We will continue our close collaboration with the primary objectives of providing our mutual customers with a high level of certainty and trust and ensuring our products function great together.”

By joining forces, F5 and Omnissa Horizon are committed to delivering exceptional value and innovative solutions to their customers, fostering a future of enhanced performance, security, and user experience.
