This Lab includes lectures, demonstrations, hands-on labs and discussions.
Topics covered in this course include:

  • Installation, license and setup of the BIG-IP VIPRION system
  • VIPRION chassis and blade hardware options overview
  • Clustered Multi-Processing (CMP)
  • Configuring virtual CMP (vCMP) host and guests
  • High-Availability with vCMP and non-vCMP systems
  • Hardware maintenance and basic troubleshooting

By Lab completion, the student should be able to identify various VIPRION chassis and hardware options, perform an initial configuration of the BIG-IP VIPRION system, and configure vCMP host and guests. Additionally, the student should be able to monitor, administer, and perform basic troubleshooting tasks on traffic processed by the BIG-IP VIPRION System. (Students should be familiar with the BIG-IP LTM system and, in particular, how to setup and configure a BIG-IP LTM system, including virtual servers, pools, profiles, VLANs and self-IPs.
Students are required to complete one of the following F5 prerequisites before attending this course:

  • Administering BIG-IP V11 instructor-led course
  • F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator

In addition, the following web-based courses will be very helpful for any student with limited BIG-IP LTM administration and configuration:

  • Getting Started with BIG-IP web-based training
  • Getting Started with BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) web-based training

Students should understand:

  • TMOS administration
  • Network concepts and configuration
LEVEL LAB DESCRIPTION
101 Security Workshop  [FULL]

The Security Lab provides hands-on experience for detecting and mitigating different types of Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against multiple layers of the OSI stack and explains how to configure a combination of features and functionality necessary to mitigate accessibility risks within an application architecture, using F5 BIG-IP APM, ASM, and AFM solutions.

DDoS attacks (volumetric and semantic attacks) will be discussed throughout the workshop. Multiple tools and techniques to detect and mitigate DDoS attacks will also be discussed. Using the information gathered during an attack, administrators can make an informed decision regarding the appropriate F5 BIG-IP module to use to mitigate the attack, as well as the most effective place in the network the F5 module should be located. Students will have the opportunity to see numerous attacks in the workshop’s hands-on labs.

This Lab includes open discussions.

(It is beneficial if students who attend the wLab have previously attended instructor led courses and/or have experience administering and configuring APM, ASM, and AFM F5 modules. Students should also have CLI experience in a Linux environment, experience reading and understanding scripts, experience using tcpdump; and understand tcpdump output.)

101 Certification 101 Bootcamp  [FULL]

Join us for 101 Certification Boot Camp. During the session, we will be covering all of the exam blueprint prints of the F5 101 exam. These blueprint points are the basis for the exam content, and can be found on the F5 certification page of F5.com. This class is not a guarantee of a passing score on the exam, it is simply meant to be a review of the content contained in the exam. Every attendee should take time to study the content of the study guide provided PRIOR to the Lab.

(It is expected that every student be ready to discuss the topics. If attendees have not already registered for an F5 certification ID, we will cover how to get that set up so that the exam can be taken close to the date of this class.)
