A new point of presence (PoP) site expands global reach for F5 Distributed Cloud Services, a purpose-built cloud-native solution that connects and secures distributed applications while ensuring high performance and carrier-grade reliability.
JAKARTA – F5 (NASDAQ: FFIV) today announced the expansion of its global network with a new point of presence (PoP) site in Indonesia.
As Indonesian businesses accelerate their digital transformation in the AI era, AI-driven applications demand even lower latency and higher efficiency to process vast amounts of data in real time. Global management consulting firm Kearney forecasts that AI will contribute $366 billion USD to Indonesia's GDP by 2030, underscoring its transformative potential for the nation's economy. AI development has been carried out in various sectors such as logistics, human resources, education, and cybersecurity.
As Indonesian companies embrace AI to drive innovation, this new local PoP will provide the scalability, security, and efficiency needed to secure applications (including AI applications) and APIs while maintaining competitiveness in the AI era.
“By leveraging the new PoP, customers in Indonesia can now ensure data sovereignty, meet regulatory requirements, and enhance their digital services to remain competitive,” said Adam Judd, Senior Vice President of APCJ, F5. “The PoP is a strategic move that reflects our commitment to supporting Indonesia’s rapid AI growth by delivering cost-effective data and cloud services, streamlining app and API security, and optimizing network connectivity, all of which are essential for driving innovation and staying competitive in the digital era.”
This PoP deployment significantly enhances the ability for Indonesian organizations to connect and secure applications across multicloud and edge environments with the F5 Application Delivery and Security Platform. Customers will be able to access web app and API protection (WAAP), multicloud networking, and edge computing services through a centralized SaaS-based console powered by F5 Distributed Cloud Services, enabling organizations to consume these services effortlessly.
“With Indonesia’s digital ecosystem spanning multiple networks and cloud environments, the PoP addresses the unique challenges of multicloud networking by enabling seamless connectivity, optimization, and security across diverse infrastructures,” said Surung Sinamo, Country Manager for Indonesia, F5. “The centralized console provides customers with a straightforward and cost-effective way to enable the services they need. In addition, the PoP will also play a pivotal role in democratizing security throughout Indonesia’s rapidly growing, and increasingly threatened, digital landscape.”
This launch follows a recent report from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), which found over 403 million anomalous traffic events in 2023. This included more than one million ransomware-related activities. According to the National Cyber Security Index (NCSI), Indonesia currently ranks 49th out of 176 countries.
In response to this growing threat landscape, ensuring compliance with Indonesia’s stringent data protection regulations has become more crucial than ever. The new PoP aligns with Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Law, which mandates the security and confidentiality of personal data, as well as Government Regulation No. 71/2019 and OJK Regulation No. 11/2022, which require companies to manage and store data locally. This alignment is particularly critical for highly regulated industries such as financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, and government services where data residency and security are paramount.
Besides delivering more compliant digital experiences, the new PoP also enables local businesses to enjoy lower latency. Previously, F5 customers in Indonesia had to route traffic through the nearest PoP in Singapore. A test run shows that leveraging a local PoP enables Indonesian businesses to operate 84% faster than routing through Singapore, delivering greater speed and reliability.
The F5 Global Network ensures advanced networking, security, and application delivery services across all its globally deployed PoPs.
F5 PoPs are interconnected using a dedicated and redundant private backbone, as well as multiple transit and peering connections for direct connectivity across multiple cloud providers, enterprise cloud and edge locations, and telecom operators.
The solution gives customers the ability to offload high-performance or latency-sensitive workloads, and functions as a distributed control plane with deployable software running in the customer’s public cloud or edge environment.
Furthermore, F5 Distributed Cloud Services provide routing, SD-WAN termination, load balancing, multi-layer security, Kubernetes-based app orchestration, and a globally distributed app gateway, all of which are accessible from every PoP on the F5 Global Network.
Notable PoP features include:
This new point of presence in Indonesia reinforces F5’s commitment in helping organizations navigate the complexities of modern digital infrastructure. By delivering advanced security, optimized connectivity, lower latency, and AI-ready compliant capabilities, F5 enables businesses to scale securely, enhance performance, and meet evolving regulatory requirements.
