Configuration Engineer II

Position Summary:

The Configuration Engineer II position requires a deep understanding of software programming best practices and familiarity with build and automation processes. In this role, you will work across the engineering organizations for all product families, in a dynamic high-performance environment, with fast changing priorities and assignments. Strong programming, scripting, excellent verbal/written communication skills, and teamwork are essential for the SCM team success.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies
  • Assist with SCM processes such as branching, labeling, merging
  • Assist the development, analysis and maintaining tools that support and automate processes for hardware or software product release
  • Compile and assemble software from source code to build deliverables such as product ISO images and product upgrades
  • Collaborate with multi-functional design teams in the development and management of new or improve configuration management systems, tools, and services, as well as address design issues and maintenance of existing systems
  • Works with development engineers to correct build errors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline or equivalent professional experience, in addition to 1-2 years of experience in SCM
  • Good technical skills with some experience in the delivery of configuration and build
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills
  • Results-oriented with a mix of intelligence, integrity, broad technical knowledge, verbal agility, and diplomacy
  • Passion for quality, and a strong customer focus which results in putting customer needs first
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a small, fast-paced team environment where team members are required to multi-task across multiple domains

Experience will any of the following is a plus:

  • Linux/Unix system administration
  • C, C++, or Java
  • SCM software systems such as CVS, Git and Perforce
  • Continuous integration tools such as Jenkins
  • gmake, ant and other software build dependency tools
  • Packaging technologies such as RPM and ISO9660
  • Automation tools and scripting languages such as Perl, bash, Python, Ruby, PHP and their use in web technologies.
  • Networking technologies such as NFS, Samba, CIFS
