F5 Solutions Support 2010 Shanghai World Expo

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that the organizers of 2010 Shanghai World Expo have deployed F5 Application Delivery Networking solutions, including BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager, BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager, and BIG-IP WebAccelerator devices to ensure that site visitors worldwide will enjoy optimized and secure access to the Expo’s online ticketing system.

With more than 70 million visitors expected to converge on Shanghai between May and October to attend World Expo 2010, the organizers expect Internet traffic to the online ticketing system will range from 500,000 to 2,000,000 page views per day. As part of the effort to provide high availability on both local and wide-area networks, organizers implemented the BIG-IP system to ensure 100 percent system uptime, even during major spikes in online traffic.

F5 has a strong track record of supporting extremely large events. For example, two years ago F5’s Application Delivery Networking solutions were deployed by major web content providers during the Beijing 2008 Games, where demand for online services and content surged throughout the event. It was estimated that approximately 4 billion viewers followed the event on television or online. Top Chinese companies such as, CCTV, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) also relied on F5 to provide secure, fast, and always available services during the 17-day period.

“F5’s solutions have helped accelerate user access by two-fold,” said an official of the World Expo who oversees the ticketing system. “Even if we’re experiencing large transaction volumes, servers can be added to support additional demand without any risk of system downtime.” In addition to the ticketing system, F5 also has provided Application Delivery Networking solutions for the Expo’s key applications such as its security system, concession business, branch system, and volunteer system.

“We’re very proud that F5 is playing a significant role in this major event,” said Francis Zhang, General Manager of F5 China. “F5’s value lies in our ability to help deliver large volumes of dynamic content via web applications to users from all over—and to maintain optimized performance amidst fluctuating demand. F5’s Application Delivery Networking solutions will help to ensure that the 2010 Shanghai World Expo online ticketing website enjoys maximum reliability and performance, and that users have a superior online experience.”
