F5 Solutions Provide Komplett with a Platform for Growth

BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager delivers optimum user experience for 1.5 million international customers

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that Komplett, one of the leading e-commerce companies in Europe, has implemented BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager (LTM) to enhance the online shopping experience for the company's 1.5 million customers.

"The most important differentiator for any company doing business online is the purchasing experience," said Stein Ove Røv, IT Manager at Komplett. "Two online stores can be equal in terms of their product line; the difference is the customer experience, and BIG-IP LTM helps us optimise that aspect."

Because customers shop online for reasons of speed and convenience, tolerance levels can be nearly zero when it comes to waiting times in the virtual world. In 2005, Komplett initiated a project to prepare its network architecture for increased traffic, allowing for high projected future growth. As part of the project, Komplett consulted with Watchcom Security Group AS, an accredited F5 value-added reseller.

"On a normal day, our SAP e-commerce applications receive between 80,000 and 90,000 document entries. That traffic can easily double during sales campaign periods," added Røv. "Overall, the increase in traffic has been formidable, and had we not carried out the project we started in 2005, the system would have been brought to its knees by now."

With help from F5, Komplett has updated its entire hardware and software IT platform, positioning itself for further growth. Today, the system is running on a new server platform, with the BIG-IP systems optimising the traffic between the 35-40 servers that interface with customers and back-office systems.

"Without F5, my job would be much more complicated," added Røv. "We would have had greater employee overhead and management costs, and at the same time inferior hardware utilisation. The F5 solution has exceeded all our expectations."

"F5 has a solid track record of solving growth related issues arising due to our customers' business success," said Jon Bjornland, Country Manager for Norway at F5, "In recent years we've helped numerous e-commerce firms scale their systems for future growth as shoppers increasingly choose to make their purchases online."

F5's BIG-IP product family delivers improved availability, performance, application security, and access control in one highly adaptable unit. Additionally, F5 offers fully tested solutions, including documented deployment and operation guidelines, optimised specifically for SAP application environments-enabling customers to quickly and cost-efficiently manage, secure, and optimise SAP applications.
