F5 Solution Optimizes Oracle Database Deployments

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking (ADN), today announced availability of a new Application Ready Solution for Oracle Database technologies. For the first time, F5 is delivering capabilities specifically designed for the database. By integrating F5’s BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager™ and WAN Optimization Module™ with Oracle Database, the new solution provides optimized performance for joint customers.

"By utilizing F5's BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager and WAN Optimization Module with the Oracle Database, customers benefit from simplified database administration and accelerated database replication over the WAN," said Tim Shetler, VP, Product Management at Oracle.

Details

As part of a comprehensive Application Ready Solution for Oracle Database technologies, F5 provides specific performance improvements and optimizations to help customers get the most from their Oracle Database environments including:

  • Enhanced Visibility, Enabling IT Administrators to Respond Quickly to Change

F5's Application Ready Solution delivers enhanced health monitoring and connection management capabilities. This helps IT teams respond rapidly to dynamic conditions affecting database servers and performance levels. F5’s BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager serves as an intermediary to Oracle Database servers, monitoring their health and providing the ability to manage connections from the application to the database for added efficiency.

  • Savings in Time and Resources for Data Replication
F5's BIG-IP WAN Optimization Module can dramatically reduce the volume of data transmitted over the WAN during data replication. Moreover, BIG-IP solutions can also accelerate database replication over bandwidth-constrained network environments by up to 9 times, while offloading all processing for network compression, network optimization, and SSL encryption from Oracle Database servers.

Additional Quotes

"IT managers and database administrators are continually looking for ways to effectively maintain database environments while limiting the amount of manual intervention required," said Jon Oltsik, Senior Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "Assuring business continuity and disaster recovery with large databases can make it difficult to meet SLAs for recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives. By providing tools for enhanced database health monitoring and centralized management, F5 and Oracle solutions can help IT teams improve database efficiencies and reduce operations costs."

"Historically, F5 has collaborated with Oracle on a number of solutions involving applications and middleware deployments, and we’re excited to expand our solution partnership to database environments as well," said Calvin Rowland, VP of Application Partner Programs at F5. "With unified management, and optimization capabilities, F5 products provide strategic points of control within the IT infrastructure. By combining our flexible solutions with Oracle's leading database technologies, we're able to offer customers powerful performance benefits and the ability to customize how IT resources are used to best address organizational priorities."

F5 at Oracle OpenWorld

F5 will be demonstrating this solution at Oracle OpenWorld, September 19–23 at Moscone Center in San Francisco. F5 is exhibiting in booth #1427 in the South Hall.
