F5 Networks Dominates Market Share Growth for SSL VPNs and SSL-Enabled Layer 4-7 Products

Latest Infonetics Research reports reveal F5's brisk growth of its FirePass product and the Company's No. 1 market share position in SSL security

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Application Traffic Management products, today announced that its FirePass® product for secure remote access has leaped to the No. 2 worldwide market share position, based on units sold according to the latest Infonetics VPN and Firewall market report1. In a separate Infonetics report2 covering Layer 4-7 (L4-L7) Switches and SSL Products, F5 maintained its position as the worldwide revenue market share leader for SSL-enabled L4-L7 category for the 13th consecutive quarter.

According to the Infonetics VPN and Firewall market report, in just two quarters since F5 began shipping its SSL VPN product, FirePass Controller has taken the No. 2 unit market share position. "F5 has demonstrated that they are very committed to the success of this product and is putting significant resources behind FirePass," said Jeff Wilson, Principal Analyst at Infonetics Research. "F5's market share in the SSL VPN arena has undergone impressive growth since FirePass began shipping. Their continued focus on security, application level intelligence, and network level performance should bode well for F5 customers and the market."

Based on findings in the Infonetics L4-L7 Switches and SSL Products report, F5 further increased its lead in the SSL-enabled L4-L7 switch/load balancer category, with 49 percent market share - up 2 percent from the previous quarter. "The SSL-enabled L4-L7 switch/load balancer market is healthy, with revenue up 14 percent," said Neil Osipuk, Directing Analyst at Infonetics Research. "F5 remains ahead of the curve with the security features that BIG-IP already has in place, such as integrated SSL acceleration, DoS protection, and the ability to leverage information contained in SSL client certificates to make intelligent decisions. The combination of BIG-IP®, FirePass and their new TrafficShield™ product for application-layer firewalling, creates a compelling growth strategy for F5 as the market is fueled by the demand for increased security."

"F5 is very pleased with the enthusiastic market adoption of FirePass and our sustained market leadership in SSL-enabled application switches and appliances, as reflected in the Infonetics study," said Erik Giesa, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at F5 Networks. "With our proven expertise in SSL, Application Traffic Management, and deep application-level knowledge, which is unique for a networking company, F5 presents a very powerful value proposition for our customers."
