F5 Networks Delivers Complete Support for Microsoft .NET

F5's Microsoft .NET-enabled products provide the essential glue that unifies applications with the network, ensuring rapid deployment and delivery of Web applications and services

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Internet Traffic and Content Management (iTCM) products, today announced that it is the first iTCM vendor to offer complete interface support for the Microsoft .NET platform and XML Web services. All applications and services developed using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework can communicate with and influence the behavior of the underlying network, through F5's iTCM products and iControl™ API.

F5 ensures that applications work in concert with the network; enabling rapid deployment and successful delivery of XML Web services. Any windows-based application can interface quickly and readily with F5's iTCM products to achieve a higher level of scale, availability, and performance by leveraging F5's integrated network platform. This functionality is available today by using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and F5's iControl™ SDK (software developer's kit), which can be downloaded for free at www.f5.com/iControl/developer/index.html.

"Microsoft welcomes the support of F5 Networks in ensuring the successful delivery of XML Web services," said Robert Green, lead product manager for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "Developers using Visual Studio .NET will find iControl a very useful tool to more readily scale, secure, and enhance the reliability of their Web applications and services."

Beginning immediately, all of F5 networking products are compatible with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework, delivering a rich, comprehensive interface that allows any Microsoft Windows based application to communicate with the F5 Network platform. This interface enables services and applications to extract or input information in order to adjust application and network behavior via XML Web services.

"F5 Networks is making iControl easier to incorporate into development plans by providing integration with .NET," said Lucinda Borovick, Director, Data Center Networks, IDC. "By enabling the applications and services developed with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework to communicate with the underlying network, iControl makes it easier for developers to deploy available, scaleable web services."

Any application written in one of the more than 20 languages for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET can easily be compiled and natively bind F5's secure iControl SOAP/XML function calls to any Windows application. Through this support F5 ensures that: (1) XML Web services and applications written with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET are available, secure and running properly; (2) IP application traffic is directed to the resource or application that is best suited to fulfill the request, based on a variety of content, business or performance criteria; and (3) the highly distributed nature of XML Web services is optimized by quickly and rapidly integrating different and distributed elements within an application and network architecture to make the applications work better and add more value.

"We're pleased to announce that all F5 IP Application Switches and networking products are now compatible with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework," said Jim Ritchings, vice-president of business development at F5 Networks. "Enterprises rolling out XML Web services must consider end-to-end reliability, performance and security - all characteristics of the Microsoft .NET Framework. F5 is extending the power of the Microsoft .NET Framework with our SOAP/XML-based iControl architecture to provide unprecedented network automation and optimization for rapid deployment of XML Web services and applications."
