F5 Networks Captures Top Honors At Spring Internet World

F5's iControl receives Best of Show award for 'infrastructure' category

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Internet Traffic and Content Management (iTCM) products, today announced that F5's iControl, the core to F5's Internet Control Architecture, has earned Internet World's prestigious 'Best of Show' award, infrastructure category, as judged by a panel of writers and editors from Internet World magazine.

"F5 is pleased that the Internet World judges recognized the value of iControl for enabling the industry's first truly application-aware networks," said Jeff Pancottine, Senior Vice-President of Marketing and Business Development for F5 Networks. "iControl breaks down the barriers between the network and applications and represents an industry breakthrough for efficiently managing application deployment and availability for large-scale web applications."

About iControl™

iControl, core to F5's Internet Control Architecture, makes it possible for applications to directly interoperate with the network's traffic management and content delivery infrastructure. Through iControl's open, secure communications protocol and SOAP/XML API, network equipment can communicate with applications and applications can control the network, eliminating manual intervention and error prone procedures. iControl delivers secure, encrypted intercommunication between network products, and facilitates seamless application integration for: (1) management of local traffic; (2) management of globally distributed traffic; (3) deployment of content to remote servers; (4) management of the version of content served by caches on the network; and (5) significant reduction of resources needed to manage distributed networks.

Customers, partners, and third party integrators can take advantage of the iControl software development kit (SDK) that is an open SOAP/XML or CORBA API, which also demonstrates F5's support for defining and applying open, cohesive Internet traffic and content management standards. And by utilizing iControl with F5's industry leading iTCM products, F5's complete Internet Control Architecture can be implemented and deployed, allowing enhanced Layer 7 functionality. Any third party or customer can integrate their applications and network systems through iControl, opening up unparalleled Layer 7 capability.

About the Best of Show Awards

As part of the Internet World show, vendors are invited to submit new products to be judged by a group of editors and writers as being the "best". A panel of qualified judges from Internet World (Penton Media's bi-weekly magazine) and other publications judge various nominations, based on the innovative use they make of technology. Judges place priority on a product's ability to work with existing standards and the degree to which it contributes to the development of future Internet products and services.
