F5 Networks' BIG-IP Controller Wins Exclusive 'Editor's Choice Award' From Network Computing Magazine

Network Computing cites BIG-IP as the most flexible and manageable Web switching product tested, offering the most advanced logic
F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Internet traffic and content management (iTCM) products, today announced that the BIG-IP® Controller has won Network Computing's 'Editor's Choice Award' for its review of Web content switches - also known as URL switches or Layer 7 switches. BIG-IP was reviewed and tested along with competing products from Alteon, Foundry, and Intel. F5 is the only iTCM company to receive top honors from Network Computing for both its local area (BIG-IP) and wide area (3-DNS®) Internet traffic management products.

"F5 Networks has always taken pride in providing the industry's most intelligent and advanced products for Internet traffic and content management, without sacrificing the high-performance that our customers require," said Steve Goldman, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Services at F5 Networks. "We're very pleased that Network Computing has awarded F5 with this exclusive honor and that through their rigorous testing they believe F5 sets a high watermark for Web switching features and functionality."

In this review, Network Computing tested Web content switches at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Real-World Labs®. They discovered that the use of this technology can improve site performance, take better advantage of available resources, and better direct those resources to target audiences. According to Network Computing, "Combining a strong, traditional load-balancing feature set with SSL acceleration ability, BIG-IP is the best choice for sites and installations looking to make extensive use of Web switching features and functionality."

About the BIG-IP Controller

BIG-IP is a high availability, load balancing product that provides intelligent management of Internet traffic and content. Because BIG-IP provides true Layer 7 management capabilities, it can make more granular and intelligent load balancing decisions. BIG-IP can identify specific traffic based on HTTP header information or IP address to determine where a customer request should be sent - directing traffic to a set of servers or devices that can best service the request. HTTP header load balancing is one of BIG-IP's numerous methods of intelligent traffic control that gives e-Businesses nearly unlimited flexibility and manageability over the flow of IP-based traffic.
