F5 Networks Announces Support for Microsoft ISA Server

BIG-IP traffic management solution brings enhanced performance, security, uptime, and scalability to Microsoft ISA Server deployments

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Internet Traffic and Content Management (iTCM) products, today announced that its market-leading BIG-IP products offer interoperability with Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000. The BIG-IP product line provides intelligent load balancing and high availability for ISA Server. Customers who deploy BIG-IP with Microsoft's firewall will benefit through enhanced performance, security, uptime, and scalability for ISA Server implementations. As part of the solution, F5 will be able to deliver programmatic control of BIG-IP/ISA deployments via its iControl SOAP/XML API (Application Programming Interface).

"The interoperability between F5's BIG-IP and Microsoft ISA Server is a significant development for our joint enterprise customers," said Nevet Basker, director of business development for ISA Server at Microsoft Corp. "By working together, F5 Networks and Microsoft can offer customers an effective solution that provides extremely reliable and secure delivery of Web services and applications."

BIG-IP automatically directs user requests to only those ISA Servers that are functioning properly and distributes load optimally based upon a variety of performance and business criteria. The combined BIG-IP/ISA Server solution gives customers a competitive edge by providing: (1) Scalability, fault tolerance, and enhanced performance through its best practices approach of load balancing traffic; (2) Sharpened security through the addition of two hardened security layers via a "firewall sandwich" implementation; and (3) Extensible, programmatic control, via iControl's SOAP/XML API, enabling automated administration, maintenance of multi-server ISA implementations, and ISA Server registration/removal.

"More than ever, network security is top of mind for many enterprises as they roll out IP-based business applications and services that involve sensitive data and information," said Jeff Pancottine, senior vice-president of marketing and business development at F5 Networks. "By working closely with Microsoft, we can ensure customers that our companies' products are not only compatible but, when deployed together, also deliver a robust and optimized solution for managing IP-based traffic, applications and Web services with enterprise-class security."
