F5 Networks Announces SSL VPN Technology Alliances

Successful interoperability with partners' products ensure that customers can rely on F5's FirePass product to integrate with existing and evolving application infrastructure

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Application Traffic Management products, today announced interoperability with key alliance partners in the application and security markets to extend and simplify enterprise integration of F5's SSL VPN product, the FirePass® Controller. The FirePass product enables a user with a standard browser to access web, client/server, and legacy corporate applications. Key capabilities include full network access for mobile workers, comprehensive browser-based access to corporate and desktop applications for all employees, and selective application access for partners. Today's announcement focuses on seamless integration with alliance partners providing terminal server, client security, global roaming, and identity management (i.e. single sign-on) solutions.

Terminal Server Integration - Microsoft and Citrix enable users with thin terminal server clients to access authorized corporate applications. The FirePass controller enables mobile and remote users on Windows-based laptops, home computers, and other systems to securely access corporate applications via a terminal server without a preinstalled terminal server client. The FirePass controller uses SSL to encrypt communication across the Internet and optionally enables access to local hard drives and printers. "F5's FirePass SSL VPN, along with BIG-IP and 3-DNS, allows us to offer our customers and prospects a suite of solutions that intelligently provide remote users end-to-end application access while further ensuring IP-based applications are always available, cost-effective, and secure," said Allen Stewart, Enterprise Architect at Microsoft.

Client Security Interoperability - McAfee provides client security including personal firewall, antivirus, and other client protection. The FirePass client integrity checking ensures that the client security programs are active before allowing a full network connection to the corporate network. By ensuring active client security, FirePass protects against virus propagation, back door attacks, and other security issues from users at wireless hot spots, hotels, or other public networks.

Global Roaming Interoperability - iPass and Fiberlink simplify corporate remote access from virtually anywhere by allowing users to launch global roaming clients which automatically connect the user to the Internet and then to a FirePass controller on the corporate network. Customer benefits include improved user productivity and reduced access (e.g. dialup) and support costs.

Identity and Access Management Interoperability - Netegrity and Oblix enable companies to manage user authentication and access to Web applications. For mobile and remote users, identity and access management products authenticate the user and then pass a Cookie to FirePass to enable single sign-on across applications. "Netegrity provides a comprehensive identity and access management product line for managing users and their access to corporate resources," said Stephanie Feraday, Vice President of Marketing at Netegrity. "Our partnership with F5 enables companies to leverage their existing identity and access management infrastructure and extend it to provide single sign-on capabilities to remote users utilizing F5's SSL VPN solution."

"These partnerships result in a broader set of solutions to meet the demanding remote access requirements for a larger set of customers," said Jim Ritchings, Vice President of Business Development at F5 Networks. "Successful interoperability testing results in solutions based on complimentary technology which in turn offers our customers an expanded set of deployment options. Today's announcement represents an expansion of our Partner portfolio. We will continue to add Industry leaders to our Program and build solutions with them that deliver tangible value to our customers."
