F5 Networks Announces Smart Plug-in from HP Now Available for 3-DNS Controller

Smart Plug-in for F5's 3-DNS Controller offers seamless integration to HP OpenView portfolio of management products; Complements HP's current offering of the Smart Plug-in for F5's BIG-IP product

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Application Traffic Management products, today announced that a Smart Plug-in (SPI) for F5's 3-DNS® product has been developed by HP as part of the HP OpenView Smart Plug-in for Data Network Devices product bundle. Smart Plug-ins provide IT organizations with a cost-effective and easily configurable way to successfully extend the breadth and depth of HP OpenView's management capabilities to applications, databases, operating systems, and networking devices like F5's BIG-IP and 3-DNS products. Device management is a critical component to ensure that customers always have available and well-performing services.

"The new HP OpenView Smart Plug-in for 3-DNS builds upon and complements HP's offering of the Smart Plug-in for BIG-IP, announced at the beginning of the year," said Jim Ritchings, vice-president of business development at F5 Networks. "HP customers now have seamless integration between all of F5's local and wide area traffic management products and HP OpenView products, which can utilize the rich metrics and intelligence captured by the 3-DNS and BIG-IP devices. And, because F5 networking devices can communicate directly with enterprise applications through iControl, the level of business intelligence is raised, increasing the value of the combined solution."

"HP OpenView solutions optimize company performance and availability by anticipating problems before they occur," said Jim Grant, vice-president and general manager of HP OpenView Business Unit. "F5 Application Traffic Management products deliver the same value proposition and align with HP OpenView products to create an optimal customer experience. By sharing the metrics F5 devices capture with HP OpenView, the overall intelligence and efficiency of the network improves. With the SPI for BIG-IP and now 3-DNS, HP customers have a simple and cost-effective way to extend the benefits of HP OpenView to all of F5's products."

The SPI for 3-DNS Controller is a fully integrated, out-of-the-box solution that seamlessly connects F5's global traffic management product with the HP OpenView portfolio of management products. By using the SPI for 3-DNS together with HP OpenView products, network managers can collect metrics and alerts from the 3-DNS Controller to make informed and smarter decisions on how to optimize network resources. The solution is further enhanced through F5's open iControl API (Application Programming Interface), which is part of 3-DNS Controller and all F5 Application Traffic Management products. Using iControl, any third party application or device can communicate directly with F5 networking devices and influence the network's traffic management infrastructure; resulting in increased operational efficiencies for enterprises by reducing the need for manual intervention.
