F5 Networks Announces HP Smart Plug-in Available for F5's BIG-IP

F5's IP traffic management product now connected to HP OpenView's managed domain; Smart Plug-in delivers seamless connectivity between F5's BIG-IP traffic management product and HP OpenView's portfolio of management products

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Internet Traffic and Content Management (iTCM) products, today announced that a Smart Plug-in (SPI) for F5's BIG-IP® product has been developed by Hewlett-Packard Company as part of the HP OpenView Smart Plug-in for Data Network Devices product bundle. A fully integrated, out-of-the-box solution, the SPI for BIG-IP seamlessly connects F5's intelligent traffic management products with the HP OpenView portfolio of management products.

Using the SPI for BIG-IP together with HP OpenView products enables network managers to collect metrics and events from BIG-IP to make better, more informed decisions on how to allocate network resources. F5's iControl API (Application Programming Interface), which is part of BIG-IP, will add further value to the overall solution by making it possible for applications to directly interoperate with the network's traffic management infrastructure.

"The HP OpenView Smart Plug-in for BIG-IP will provide immediate value to HP customers who can now leverage the rich metrics that BIG-IP collects from the network," said Jeff Pancottine, senior vice-president of marketing and business development at F5 Networks. "Sharing these metrics with other network devices raises the overall intelligence and efficiency of the network since more procedures can be automated and preemptive measures can be taken to avoid system problems."

"Smart Plug-ins provide IT organizations a cost-efficient and easily configurable way to successfully extend the breadth and depth of HP OpenView's management capabilities to applications, databases, operating systems, and devices like F5's BIG-IP for traffic management," said Patty Azzarello, vice-president and general manager of HP OpenView Business Unit. "Device management is a critical component to assure customers have always available and well-performing services."

The Smart Plug-In for BIG-IP is expected to be available in January from HP or authorized HP resellers.
