F5 Introduces Updated Enterprise Manager for Comprehensive Device Management and Streamlined Application Delivery

F5 is the first to support organizational workflow through centralized application templates, reducing deployment cycles up to 30 percent; DevCentral provides advanced configuration options for application networking and device management

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced the latest software release for its centralized device administration product. Enterprise Manager™ version 1.4 provides a central collaboration point for networking and application teams to easily plan, implement, and maintain application networking designs based on F5's product portfolio. The results are a dramatic increase in operational efficiency, simplified workflow management and auditing of the underlying infrastructure, and improved time-to-market for application rollouts.

To complement this release, F5 has also expanded its DevCentral online community to include support for sharing Enterprise Manager-ready application templates, as well as other advanced deployment and configuration options for F5 products. Enabling the F5 technical community to create and share Enterprise Manager application templates gives administrators unparalleled flexibility and access to solutions that address a broad range of deployment scenarios. In addition to these templates, DevCentral now offers dedicated forums and wikis focused on advanced configuration and deployment options for F5 products. Through these and other initiatives, DevCentral continues to enable increased integration between application developers, network and security professionals, and enterprise architects in a shared environment designed for the superior performance, security, and availability of applications from vendors like Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, BEA, and Sun.

"Centralized device management provides a significant advantage for businesses today," said Zeus Kerravala, Senior Vice President with Yankee Group. "F5's inclusion of specific application templates, support of organizational workflow, and expansion of DevCentral to assist with device management gives F5 customers a powerful resource, and the company's ability to merge technology with community expertise and best practices continues to strengthen their position in the application delivery market."

Business Benefits: Improved Time-to-Market and Operational Efficiency

Enterprise Manager's unique application templates are specifically designed to optimize enterprise management by enabling architects to quickly design their application delivery networks, key stakeholders to review staged applications, and operational personnel to deploy them-all with respect to specific applications.

Moreover, operational errors are nearly eliminated through Enterprise Manager's Distributed Configuration Management and Workflow Management capabilities. Administrators can specify different roles (and permission levels) and the solution's configuration staging process allows administrators to validate configurations prior to deployment. In addition, with a centralized configuration viewer, deployment changes can be quickly viewed and validated on the fly.

"F5 continues to deliver innovative products that set the standard for value," said Erik Giesa, VP of Product Management and Product Marketing at F5. "The joint capabilities of Enterprise Manager and DevCentral mark an industry first where specific application templates can be downloaded directly from DevCentral and implemented with our new Workflow Management tool, reducing the time needed to implement and configure specific applications and networks. Through DevCentral's community-driven collaboration, our customers can call on the aggregate expertise and best practices of 15,000+ users."

Enterprise Manager v1.4 is available now. The new software release runs on both the 500 and 3000 platforms. Existing F5 customers with current maintenance agreements can upgrade to Enterprise Manager v1.4 at no additional cost. For more information on Enterprise Manager, visit
