F5 Delivers Powerful Next Generation Versions of Its BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager and BIG-IP Link Controller Products Fully Integrated on Exclusive TMOS Architecture

F5 defines a new standard for helping enterprises solve application delivery challenges for Service Oriented Architectures; New products use F5's TMOS as the building block to deliver unprecedented intelligence, availability, and control

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that it has delivered two new products shipping on its industry leading TMOS architecture. BIG-IP® Global Traffic Manager (GTM) and BIG-IP Link Controller (LC) are now architected to leverage the modularity, scalability, and intelligence of F5's uniquely powerful TMOS platform. The products enable enterprises to achieve superior availability and performance when faced with the challenge of delivering the emerging class of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) applications across multiple data centers.

The BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager (formerly known as F5's 3-DNS® Controller) distributes end user application requests according to business policies and datacenter and network conditions to ensure the highest possible application availability and scalability. The BIG-IP Link Controller seamlessly monitors availability and performance of multiple WAN ISP (Internet Service Provider) connections by intelligently managing two-way traffic flow to a site, providing fault tolerant and optimized Internet access.

By leveraging TMOS services such as Rate Shaping, Compression and iRules, BIG-IP LC not only ensures high availability for customers' ISP links, but also significantly boosts link performance. BIG-IP Global Traffic Management (GTM)

Unlocks Superior SOA application availability, performance and management. The product's Distributed Application Management feature tracks and manages interdependencies between loosely coupled application services. Quickly detects Datacenter and application failures. The product's Application-Specific Monitoring feature checks the health of a variety of applications, such as LDAP, SIP, Oracle, MYSQL, etc., for improved reliability and superior end-user experience. Composite Monitoring gives organizations the flexibility to configure multiple monitors-checks the health of the application at multiple levels-and directs traffic based on the results of the monitors they choose as most critical.

Optimizes end-user experience. Through its Client Continuity feature, the product tracks application state that provide intelligent persistence and enables organizations to maintain client session continuity for applications running across multiple data centers.

Greater flexibility and manageability of global traffic. F5's unique iRule programming language gives organizations the ability to design custom traffic distribution policies that are aligned with business and organizational goals to improve performance, security, and user experience while easing administrative burdens.

BIG-IP Link Controller (LC)

The BIG-IP LC gives organizations a powerful way to solve WAN ISP challenges such as performance, security, high availability, and management in an operationally efficient manner. It is the only solution that provides a unified, integrated platform to deliver link optimization services such as Compression, Rate Shaping, and a highly optimized TCP stack. This enables organizations to intelligently and cost-effectively manage bandwidth utilization and monitor ISP links to ensure maximum availability in the event of a primary ISP failure. Key features include:

Increase ISP link reliability. Composite Monitors help organizations detect critical ISP outages and intelligently route traffic to available links. Topology-Based Routing aligns ISP link usage to business policies, geography, and user location, solving ISP peering disputes.

Improve application response times. Integrated Rate Shaping gives organizations a powerful way to prioritize application traffic for efficient link bandwidth utilization and improved application response times. TCP Express is a highly optimized TCP stack designed to eliminate the inefficiencies caused by TCP protocols for dramatic application delivery performance.

Reduce monthly ISP bills. Compression allows organizations to designate the speed, size, and system resources to reduce the size of objects transferred over a WAN link. This capability helps increase bandwidth for mission-critical applications, improve application delivery performance, and reduce ISP costs.

Improve application Quality of Service. iRules allow customers to define policies based on application type, client identity, etc., to distribute traffic over ISP links with the best performance. For example, a customer can send delay sensitive SIP traffic over the best performing ISP link based on the link performance metrics (such as latency, Hops, RTT, etc).
