F5 Delivers Comprehensive SSL VPN Solution to the Japanese Market

FirePass Controller offers native Japanese language support

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), today announced that the FirePass® Controller, the industry's most comprehensive clientless solution for delivering secure and reliable remote access to corporate and desktop resources and applications, is now available in Japan with Japanese language support.

The FirePass product is a SSL VPN appliance that provides secure remote Web-based application access to intranet applications, terminal servers, files, and e-mail servers. For laptop users, it offers a complete replacement for IPSec clients by delivering full network access with support for all IP-based applications while eliminating the requirement to preinstall VPN client software. The FirePass Controller is the first SSL VPN appliance that offers mobile-specific functionality to automatically format e-mail texts, depending on the type of remote device. This allows users to transmit/receive e-mails using mobile phones (e.g. iMode), access mobile applications, and gain access to shared files.

"As markets outside of the United States and Europe begin to embrace SSL VPN technology, multi-cultural product attributes will accelerate the technology's distribution and acceptance," said Jason Wright, Security Technologies Industry Analyst for Frost & Sullivan. "By being among the first in the SSL VPN market to offer native Japanese language support, F5 has demonstrated a commitment to the Japanese market that will give them a competitive advantage over most other SSL VPN contenders."

Highlights of the FirePass Controller, Japanese version, include:

  • Support of double byte Japanese characters for use in e-mails and shared files
  • Japanese language GUI (Graphical User Interface) and administrator GUI, which can be switched to Japanese or English language by the user
  • Online user help
  • Japanese language support for the Desktop Adapter, enabling secure remote control of Windows corporate desktops

"This version of FirePass represents F5's commitment to the Japanese market," said Tim Goodwin, Vice President F5 Japan Operations. "Thanks to Japanese-only features such as mobile connectivity, I'm confident FirePass will be a leading SSL VPN product in the Japanese market as it is throughout the rest of the world. We'll continue to listen to our Japanese customers to address their ongoing requirements for secure remote access."
