F5 BIG-IP Solution Selected by MITSUI KNOWLEDGE INDUSTRY to Support Unified Communication Platform

Microsoft and F5 technologies improve IT management efficiency and business agility through increased collaboration and more effective internal communication

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that MITSUI KNOWLEDGE INDUSTRY Co., Ltd. (MKI) has combined F5's BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager™ (LTM™) with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS 2007) to establish a reliable unified communication platform, streamline internal collaboration, and boost workforce efficiency.

Using "easy and convenient" as the project's mantra, MKI introduced the OCS 2007 unified communication offering-including voice, video, presence information, and instant messaging-to ensure smoother internal communication. Because OCS 2007 was highly compatible with the company's existing Microsoft solutions, MKI was able to provide a unified communication platform with a familiar, intuitive interface for employees.

Along with OCS 2007, MKI chose to deploy F5's BIG-IP LTM to ensure optimized application performance and availability, even in the case of site failure. F5's Application Ready Solution for OCS 2007 provides application-specific deployment guidance and configuration templates that enable automated operations-reducing deployment, management, and operation costs as well as improving business performance.

In selecting a solution, MKI also looked to the results of BIG-IP LTM and OCS 2007 interoperability efforts stemming from F5's partnership with Microsoft. MKI also chose F5 because of BIG-IP's iRules™ programmable scripting commands, which enable IT personnel to customize and automate specific policies to further optimize their infrastructure and IT processes.

"MKI has been implementing work style management (WSM) initiatives in order to make work processes more efficient and increase productivity by ensuring smoother communications within the company," stated Katsuhisa Nakatani, Director and Executive Officer of the Corporate Planning Division, MKI. "These initiatives are anticipated to help stimulate growth, increase employee satisfaction, and enhance the corporate values and competitiveness of MKI itself. F5 products support the infrastructure vital for these initiatives, and I look forward to future initiatives."

"In order to realize a highly reliable, unified communication environment, F5 has worked with Microsoft to provide joint verification and configuration guidance for customers," said Nobuyoshi Yokoi, Worker Information Business Group Lead, Microsoft Co., Ltd. "MKI recently leveraged the efforts of Microsoft's partnership with F5 to complete the construction of a unified communication environment in a short period of time, and we believe that joint Microsoft and F5 solutions will be useful to many companies that are faced with similar issues."
