F5 Announces 2009 DevCentral iRules Contest Showcasing User Community Innovation

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that it will hold its third DevCentralSM iRulesTM contest, recognizing the most outstanding business solutions created using the F5®iRulesTM customizable scripting language.

Many of the DevCentralSM community's 46,000 global members take advantage of this uniquely powerful scripting capability to tailor application delivery infrastructures to meet their specific needs and business requirements. Previous iRulesTM contests have highlighted innovative customer and reseller-developed solutions to address a wide range of IT challenges including user authentication, application proxies, spam avoidance, web application security, application performance optimization, and more.

Key Facts

  • Focused on recognizing and rewarding the best and brightest iRule developers and solutions, the "iRule. Do You?" contest is sponsored by F5's DevCentralSM, the world's leading Application Delivery Networking community for IT professionals. The contest gives application architects, developers, systems engineers, and other network and security professionals the opportunity to showcase their iRules expertise and share best practices with their peers.
  • iRules help define how F5® products secure, optimize, and deliver any bi-directional IP application traffic or flow, giving customers complete and granular control over their application traffic. iRules enable enterprises, service providers, and e-businesses to offload costly application functions that were previously performed within the applications themselves. For example: A Fortune 100 Telco company used an iRule to solve a softswitch problem in just one weekend. The Telco avoided spending $1 million and 9 months of application coding by applying an iRule.
  • With over 46,000 members worldwide, DevCentral is an online community where F5 users can learn about iRules and other F5 technologies, engage in peer-to-peer discussions, exchange and download code samples, and collaborate with global experts to realize iRules' unique capabilities through community-driven innovation. Because DevCentral is open to the public, all F5 customers and partners can benefit from the collective knowledge of thousands of thought leaders to address both common and specialized IT challenges. In recent findings, two-thirds of surveyed IT organizations using BIG-IP® solutions stated that F5's DevCentral is a valuable resource (Source: TechValidate. TVID: D2C-0C4-3DA).
  • The contest will commence on August 12, 2009 at 4 a.m. PT, and remain open for entries through 5 p.m. PT, September 30, 2009.
  • To highlight growing involvement from users in both Japan and China, contest details, entry instructions, and other contest information will be translated and featured on DevCentral-Japan and DevCentral-China sites, respectively.
  • Contest judging will be conducted by an expert panel comprised of industry leaders including:
  • On October 28, 2009, prizes for the iRules contest will be awarded to the top three entries in both customer and F5-affiliated reseller categories. Additional honorable mention finalists will also be acknowledged at that time.
  • Following the contest, award-winning and honorable mention iRule submissions will be showcased on DevCentral. To view winners from the previous iRules contest, please visit http://devcentral.f5.com/Default.aspx?tabid=107.
