F5 and Oracle Collaborate to Release BIG-IP Load Balancer System Management Plug-In for Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control

Unique solution using F5's iControl API delivers integrated advanced monitoring and control capabilities to optimize enterprise application delivery performance and reduce management costs and complexity

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced a new system management plug-in available from Oracle as a part of the latest release of Oracle® Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control (Oracle Grid Control). Developed in collaboration with Oracle, the plug-in uses F5's BIG-IP® iControl API (Application Programming Interface) to give joint customers of F5 and Oracle an integrated tool for monitoring and managing application delivery networking from a single, Web-based console. F5 is the first application delivery networking vendor to join the Oracle Enterprise Manager Partner effort which is aimed at helping customers better manage and provision grid computing environments. F5 is a partner in Oracle PartnerNetwork.

"F5 is the first in its space to partner with Oracle to build a plug-in for Oracle Grid Control; demonstrating our commitment to increasing value for joint customers," said Jay Rossiter, Vice President, System Management Products, at Oracle. "F5's iControl API has enabled Oracle to integrate with F5 to deliver the depth of application and network integration that enterprises demand. Our partnership with F5 will continue to be instrumental in helping us give customers a grid computing environment that provides the best in flexibility, management automation and ROI."

F5's Management Plug-in was built using iControl, F5's unique open standards-based SOAP/XML API. Extensive iControl integration provides customers with a comprehensive view of BIG-IP performance and real-time tracking of events including historical data analysis and trending, performance diagnostics, availability reports, QoS, and automation for application delivery. The combination of Oracle Grid Control integrated with BIG-IP via iControl makes it possible to manipulate remotely the underlying network for secure, fast, and optimized delivery of highly available Oracle applications, all from one common management interface. The result for joint Oracle and F5 customers is faster configuration and deployment with optimized ongoing management efficiency.

"Oracle Grid Control is a comprehensive, extensible framework that allows customers to reduce their time-to-market and decrease development costs when deploying Oracle applications," said Jim Ritchings, VP of Business Development at F5 Networks. "Centralized management is critical for our customers. By joining forces with Oracle and taking advantage of the comprehensive range of services offered in the new Oracle Enterprise Manager partner offering, F5 is able to very quickly deliver a robust solution that gives our customers higher performance, more control with less complexity, and reduced TCO."
