Dragon Airlines Selects F5's FirePass SSL VPN Solution to Give Its Staff Around the World Reliable Access to the Corporate Network and Applications

F5's FirePass Controller meets the customer's rigorous security and performance requirements while best suiting their current and future needs for a highly available and scalable SSL VPN solution

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that Hong Kong Dragon Airlines (Dragonair) has chosen F5's FirePass to be an integral element of Dragonair's SSL VPN deployment, which will enable airline staff worldwide to access the corporate network and applications via the internet with maximum security protection.

Dragonair continues to expand beyond the Asia Pacific region, employing over 3,000 staff worldwide, while offering 31 passenger destinations and cargo services internationally. It is imperative that Dragonair staff members, including their mobile workforce, around the world are able to connect to the corporate network and access enterprise applications in a secure, easy-to-deploy and cost-effective manner; increasing corporate-wide efficiency. Connecting "everybody, anytime, anywhere" is therefore a key objective for Dragonair's Information Management Division. Dragonair's key evaluation criteria included:

  • Security integrity
  • User friendliness
  • Administrative control
  • Flexibility in security access levels
  • Cost-effectiveness

"Dragonair views information security as one of the most important aspects of our corporate network," said Mr. Terry Lo, General Manager of Information Management at Dragonair. "When we are designing our SSL VPN solution, security integrity cannot be compromised. At the same time, network scalability and flexibility must also be optimized."

After comprehensive evaluation and thorough pilot testing, F5's FirePass was selected because it provides the best overall performance while meeting Dragonair's expansion requirements. FirePass delivers a highly-secured environment for remote access via the internet while supporting a broad suite of enterprise applications. It provides Dragonair with flexible access levels for controlling user access authority and requires no client installation. Mr. Lo added, "We selected F5's FirePass because it stands up to our rigorous requirements for security, and provides the overall performance that best suits our current and future needs for a highly available and scalable SSL VPN solution."

"F5's FirePass is the best-in-class SSL VPN solution that not only addresses the security needs of an enterprise over an open network such as the internet, but also tackles multi-platform performance and various application integration requirements," said Erik Giesa, VP of Product Management and Marketing at F5 Networks. "Dragonair's selection of F5 as a solution partner is a strong vote of confidence that our FirePass product is a best-in-class SSL VPN solution that meets their stringent requirements for secure remote access and performance."

Dragonair will launch the SSL VPN service to staff in Hong Kong by the end of 2005, followed by overseas staff, cockpit, and cabin crews in early 2006.
