A Leading Carrier in Japan Selects F5 Networks for New SSL VPN Service Offering

NTT Communications, a leading Telco and IP solution service provider, relies on F5's FirePass product to offer secure remote access services to millions of subscribers

F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the leading provider of Application Traffic Management products, today announced that NTT Communications Corporation has selected F5's FirePass® product as the foundation for its new SSL VPN (Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network) service offering. The new service, available through NTT Communications' Open Computer Network (OCN) Business Pack, enables subscribers to gain secure remote access to applications and data using standard Web browser technology - regardless of environment. The service has been available since the end of May 2004.

NTT Communications is one of the largest Internet carriers in Japan that caters to more than 4 million subscribers who need reliable Internet connection services, ranging from dial-up to gigabit Ethernet connectivity. Previously, NTT Communications provided VPN services using IPSec (Internet Protocol Security), but in response to customer demand added a SSL VPN solution to enable easier and more cost-effective remote access.

NTT Communications also evaluated a competitive remote access product, but upon careful analysis selected F5's FirePass product which offered a superior solution for addressing NTT Communications' strict security requirements. NTT Communications selected F5 for these key reasons: (1) The FirePass product's standard clientless feature eliminates complicated configuration and administration overhead; (2) The product's robust Network Access feature enables users to securely, reliably and seamlessly access any application from remote devices without any special configuration; and (3) F5's No. 1 position in the Layer 4-7 and SSL Security market.

"We are proud to have F5's FirePass solution selected by Japan's top carrier company," said Tim Goodwin, President of F5 Networks Japan K.K. "This is outstanding proof of F5's ability to deliver a reliable, robust and quality solution that meets the stringent security requirements of NTT Communications."
